I am a member of SAQA – Studio Art Quilt Associates – a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the art quilt through education, exhibitions, professional development, documentation, and publications. Founded in 1989, SAQA now has over 3,400 members: artists, teachers, collectors, gallery owners, museum curators and corporate sponsors.
Our local meetings alternate between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Members show projects they are working on. The 2018 TEXtiles Conference will be in San Antonio from April 5-8.
SAQA publishes a magazine with beautiful photos of members’ quilts that are inspiring and sometimes intimidating. Online Galleries, information on opportunities to show work (Calls for Entry) and tons of resources are available to members.
SAQA defines an art quilt as “a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure.
